they will stay in the team but they can release their player if they want to but i strongly advised not to do it. in one of my leagues, the commissioner simply locked the teams who failed to advance to the playoff, to prevent some collusion between those teams who are in the playoffs and who are eliminated.
What happens to the fantasy football players that don't make the playoffs? Free agents?nba stats
No, I'm pretty sure they stay on your lineup but, you have to drop them manually and pick up someone that is going to the playoffs or you get no points. So, the people out would be like they aren't even there.

it depends on the league. In some leagues they just play the other teams that are also eliminated. In other leagues, the teams are basically just there. They don't play anybody.
the playoffs are usually the last 3 weeks of the regular season
They stay in your line-up, they just don't do anything. Usually, there is some sort of consolation bracket.
Playoffs in my Leagues are all before the season ends.
That way you have your playoffs when everyone's teams are still 100% Not sure how a league would be if it was done any other way I guess...It would be unfair I think
